Hey everyone,
As I write these words, I’m still in disbelief about what happened yesterday. I didn’t expect to receive one, but I ended up with three nominations for the Ringo Awards 2025, to be celebrated at Baltimore Comic Con in October. I still can’t believe I see my name alongside giants I’ve admired throughout my life, not only as a creator but also as a fan.
Tom, Scott, Kelly, and James are my heroes and inspirations, writing books I’ve actively read for years, and some of my favorite stories in the genre. And Jason and David have outstanding careers in comics. These six people are the ones I aspire to be someday. And then, there’s me.
Oscar Osorio, Ringo-Nominated Writer.
Let’s dive into it!
A Never-Ending Adventure
A Never-Ending Adventure is a one-shot story of Mark Bear, a young Latino struggling to keep his head straight. A former corporate worker turned comic book writer, Mark needs to think of a winning idea to make a living from his passion. But his mental health is struggling. While going on adventures to his past and foreign lands, will he be able to write a comic book by the last page?
Does this story ring a bell?

Not in a million years did I imagine that the first chapter of my never-ending adventure would be alongside books like FML, Helen of Wyndhorn, and Trinity. All of these were published by major publishers in the US and created by some of the most influential creators, some of whom I have the pleasure of calling friends. And then, there’s my book, standing tall and proud.
I created this book to share the story of someone starting a new life, highlighting its honest aspects. It was not only a creative project but also cathartic, as I shared my own experience and allowed myself to be vulnerable for the first time in my career as a comic book writer. I made it with love, hoping that someone would pick it up and feel inspired. I thought that, if I had read this same book one or two years before making it, it would have helped me a lot by showing me what to expect when transitioning from economist to comic book writer. Additionally, I included monsters, creatures, pop culture references, and all the silly stuff I love about comics because if I wasn’t having fun, then what’s the point?
This nomination is special because it reflects my life story. If this book were chapter one, the Ringos seem like a fitting chapter two, where I can see how my journey has borne fruit and look forward to what’s next. I also got to include my dog, Odin, in a now Ringo-nominated book, which is arguably what makes me the happiest about this entire experience.
Tales From The New World
Tales from the New World presents three "a bit too close to reality" dystopian stories about pets, memories, and family. A Dog's Life: Beverly spent US$50,000 on her dog's house. What makes this dog so special? Happy Ending: After a stressful day at work, Will and his friends go bowling. The outcome of this game will decide his fate. The Simple Man: Generic brands are selling everything these days, from gas to consumables, from appliances to clothes. What if they ventured into selling human beings?
I like this type of twisted stories… what can I say?

Same as before, Hello Darkness has been a favorite of mine since it was released, DC Power is a freaking DC Comics book, and Transphoria is a project by Kat and Phil, whom I deeply admire and who have been role models for me in my career. And then, there’s my book, standing tall and proud.
Tales from the New World materialized from my desire to tell uncomfortable yet necessary stories (something that I continue to do), and the result was three Black Mirror episodes in comic book form. It’s gotten a great reception among readers; the second story, The Simple Man, got me an award in Peru, and I’m super proud of each page in this book and how we manage to tell so much in just a few pages. I definitely will return to those worlds someday.
Overall, whether it’s me or other Latinx creator (although I’m glad it’s me), I’m so proud to see the name of a Peruvian indie comic book writer, one of the few in the mix with no US publisher attached (I’m willing to change that, just call me), as it gives me hope for the industry. It gives me hope that more of our stories will be heard and, most importantly, valued among the greats. It gives me hope that this part, and all of those unheard parts of the world, have the power to put one of their people in the big leagues. It gives me hope that leaving my career behind to pursue my passion might be possible after all. And that new voices, who do the work, will be valued.
There’s a lot of self-doubt and rejection in this industry, but these wins make it all worth it.
