Tales from the New World
Announcing a project two years in the making! (+Free Preview just for you!)
Hello everyone!
After many months of hard work, I have a new project to announce!
I present *drum roll*
TALES FROM THE NEW WORLD!
Coming to Kickstarter in the Summer!
Cover by the great Dennis Menheere!
It contains three stories written by yours truly with art by David Stoll, Bianca Yamakoshi, and Mike Morrocco. I plan for it to be my oversized single issue, which, next to A Never-Ending Adventure and Don’t Push the Red Button, will complete my initial work catalog as I start tabling at conventions in the US during the second half of the year!
Let’s dive in!
A Dog’s Life
If you follow my Substack, you’ve read A Dog’s Life…
Wait…You haven’t?
Well, don’t tell anyone! Here you go! Just for you, dear Substack reader!
A Dog's Life is a story set in the near future about pet owners, dogs, and how we use our money. It explores what makes us human in a context where we value money above everything else.
"Osorio is an incredible storyteller and a comic creator to watch out for."
-Sarah Gailey (Eat the Rich, Know Your Station)
This exciting and disturbing story will give you a feel for Tales from the New World: stories set in the near future that examine what may happen to humanity if it continues with some questionable practices, prioritizing money over relationships. It’s a mix of sci-fi, thriller, and social commentary - dare I say, anti-capitalist…
The Simple Man
This is a heartfelt story I haven’t said much about, but I’m super excited to discuss it. I will reveal more artwise when we reach a certain number of pre-launch followers. Still, I can tell you it’s a story about consumerism, building a family, and priorities, with a twisted plot that will surprise readers. I can say that this story got us Second Place at the Fourth National Comic Book Contest in Peru, so that was nice!
And I hope this serves as validation that this story is worth reading!
Happy Ending
This is another story I haven’t discussed as much as I want, and the first story I ever worked on when pursuing my comic book creator dream! It’s about making memories and living a "worthy” life amid capitalism and office jobs. And, you guessed it, with a futuristic twist. I crafted this story with Scott Snyder’s aid, and his teachings made this script super powerful, so I’m excited to see people’s reactions, especially since it’s been more than two years since I first imagined this world.
Anthology Origin
Tales from the New World started a few months after I began to post on Substack. Initially, I wanted it to be a series of stories in prose form, as posts, for the readers. I started writing thoughts about how the future would be in many aspects, such as social media, inequality, human behavior, and much more. I wanted to experiment with storytelling, but I didn’t get the chance to find the project’s north, so it got buried.
Fast forward to the start of last year. With my desire to become a comic book writer came looking at past inspiration to create stories. Luckily, I had written many things down and found Tales from the New World. Following Julio Anta’s example of creating short stories to show what you are capable of (btw, if you haven’t, check his short stories; they rule), I wanted to start small. Combined with the opportunity to work the story in a one-on-one mentorship with Scott Snyder, it was settled. So, for about two months, I worked with him on a story, but then A Never-Ending Adventure came on, as I wanted to venture into crowdfunding and have a complete comic up my sleeve.
Again, TftNW got buried. But now, it’s out again, and finally, it will see the light of day.
What’s Next
The Kickstarter pre-launch page is up! I would greatly appreciate it if you signed up. It would help me a lot.
I’m super excited about this one. It’s a very personal project since I wrote the stories. The art is superb, so you may want to pick it up just for it. Oh, btw, the stories are FINISHED, so you won’t have to wait much time to read them. We are ready to print as soon as the campaign funds. I’ll keep you posted on this and other projects! The following months will be amazing!
Until next time, and remember, stay awesome and go read something!
